Junk food causes acne
The truth: This has been scientifically proven
to be untrue. There is no evidence that junk
food actually causes acne. However, while fried
food and snacks aren’t responsible for
breakouts, healthy skin requires a well-balanced
diet.
Dirt and oil causes acne
The truth: This is not possible because acne starts
below the surface of the skin inside the hair
follicle. However, keeping skin clean using an
appropriate cleanser is key to preventing clogged
pores.
Blackheads look black because of deep-down dirt
The truth: The black stuff inside a blackhead is
a combination of dead skin cells and oil. The
material inside oxidizes and turns darker when
it’s exposed to the air.
Tanning helps clear up acne
The truth: Although the sun may temporarily dry
up oiliness and give skin a more even appearance,
the damage of UV rays to the skin outweighs the
benefits. Dangerous effects may include premature
aging and serious skin conditions like skin cancer.
Spot treatments prevent acne
The truth: Spot treatment will only help reduce
the appearance of existing blemishes. New spots
will still appear unless the treatment is applied
daily over entire effected areas.
Acne is curable
The truth: Acne is not yet curable, however, it
is treatable. The best way to treat acne is to
prevent blemishes from happening. Remember, even
when breakouts have disappeared acne is not cured,
so maintaining consistent treatment and home
care regimens are important even after skin appears
healthy.
Acne scarring will fade in time
The truth: Acne scarring is permanent. While modern
procedures can help reduce the appearance of
acne scars, treating acne is the only way to
prevent scarring.
